Salenger, Sack, Kimmel & Bavaro – Fighting For Voting Rights

The people voted into office at the local, state and federal levels determine how much money will go to your local schools, whether your streets are fixed, and what laws will protect you from personal injury accidents or wrongful death. At Salenger, Sack, Kimmel & Bavaro, we care about your rights and believe that voting is one of the best ways to protect them.

Voting rights are currently under attack. States are disenfranchising voters through strict voter ID laws, limiting early and mail-in balloting, and making it more difficult to cast a vote. Some have even used the threat of violence to silence voices and discourage participation. This is unacceptable, and we’re fighting back to defend the right to vote for everyone.

In 2013, the Supreme Court struck a blow to the 1965 Voting Rights Act by striking down its core “preclearance” requirement that required states and localities with long records of racial discrimination to submit their election law changes for federal approval before taking effect. This decision has led to the proliferation of anti-voter policies, especially in communities of color.

We’re committed to fighting back to ensure that all Americans have the opportunity to participate in our democracy by promoting legislation like the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and SVRAs, as well as supporting civil rights organizations that fight for these vital rights. We will continue to take every action necessary to push the fight for voting rights over the finish line because America’s democracy works best when all of us can vote.
